The Teacher Enhancement Program offers the following short courses:
Art of Leadership
The Art of Leadership (AOL) suited for primary and secondary schools’ management, head teachers and deputy head teachers. AOL covers a number of thematic areas which are; Dimensions of School Headship, Systemic Leadership, Managing Resources, Teacher Management Philosophy and Collaborative Planning and Practice.
The teachers are expected to use the skills imparted on them in the trainings to transform their schools into centers of excellence. We offer 10 Art of Leadership trainings yearly.
Transitioning to Inquiry Based Teaching
The Transitioning to Inquiry Based Teaching (TIBT) is suited for classroom teachers equipping them with the necessary instructional skills improve their teaching skills and delivery mode. Some of the key issues tackled include; Approaches to Teaching and Learning, Learning Disabilities, Curriculum Planning and Effective Schemes of Work, Differentiation of Learners, and Assessment Strategies. TIBT is 3-day training which includes a classroom improvement project to be done within a school term.
Project Progress and Success
Strathmore Institute of Management and Technology has trained teachers in the following counties: Makueni, Machakos, Bungoma, Murang’a, Kitui, Narok, Uasin Gishu, Kajiado, Turkana and Meru. Approximately 6,000 participants have been trained in either Art of Leadership (AOL) and 200 teachers have been trained on a one-year diploma course. The number trained is only 1.3% of the total number (403,616), of which 107,187 are public Early Childhood education (ECD) teachers, 210,991 are public primary school teachers and 85,438 are public secondary school teachers.
